Woman wearing glasses

A great-looking frame that slides down your nose or presses behind your ears will not get worn. These checks help you find a comfortable fit before you order.

  1. 1

    Frame width

The frame front should be about as wide as your face at the temples, with no large gap and no squeezing.

  2. 2

    Eye position

Your pupils should sit roughly in the centre of each lens horizontally, and a little above centre vertically.

  3. 3

    Bridge fit

The bridge should rest evenly on your nose without gaps or pinching. If frames often slip, consider adjustable nose pads or low-bridge fit.

  4. 4

    Temple length

Temples should reach past your ears and curve down gently behind them.

  5. 5

    Cheek clearance

When you smile, the frame should not lift off your nose or rest on your cheeks.

Use the numbers from a pair you already like

Most frames have three numbers printed inside a temple arm, such as 52-18-140. These are lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. Use them as a baseline when filtering by size — see our frame measurement guide.

Frames within 2–3 mm of your current measurements usually feel similar.
