Best Frames for High Prescriptions

Frame shapes, sizes and lens materials that keep strong prescriptions looking slimmer.

Stronger prescriptions produce thicker lenses — at the edges for nearsighted (minus) prescriptions and at the centre for farsighted (plus) prescriptions. The frame you choose has a big effect on how noticeable that thickness is.

Frame choices that help

  • Smaller lens widths mean less lens at the thick edge.
  • Rounder shapes reduce the thickest corners found on wide rectangles.
  • Full-rim acetate hides edge thickness better than rimless or semi-rimless frames.
  • A good PD match keeps your eyes near the lens centre, so less thick material is needed.

Consider a higher-index lens

High-index materials (1.67, 1.74) can make strong lenses noticeably thinner and lighter. See lens index explained.

Our lens builder shows suitability notes for each index based on the sphere values you enter. It is guidance only — your eye-care professional can advise on your prescription.
